I was in Half Price Books (again) and found a hardcover edition of The Joke's Over by Ralph Steadman which is a book of memories of one of his great friends, Hunter S. Thompson. As you all know, we love Thompson, and thought this was a very cool find, so we would like to share it with you all, in hopes to inspire you to delve into the world of Gonzo-journalism! It also has a foreword by Kurt Vonnegut, which is pretty cool itself.

-Hunter S. Thompson

Nice to come across a book review blog that doesn't just do teenage fantasy and bodice rippers.
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks. Yea we aren't into that genre so much....
ReplyDeleteYou have such a fun blog :) I love to visit you guys!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
I don't recall exactly when Hunter S Thompson began to be an important figure in my life, but somewhere along the line he shaped my lives on life and literature. Following this initial discovery, I went about collecting his complete works, and eventually got a tattoo of his double-fisted Gonzo logo on my left arm. However, recently, I moved to Korea and in the process of having my Thompson collection shipped over... they were all lost!
ReplyDeleteOh no that's terrible!!!!! If any of my books turned up missing I would be in the depths of despair!!
ReplyDeleteSome of them were signed, some were first editions, and all of them were loved and cherished, and now sorely missed!
ReplyDeleteIf that happened to me I am not sure I would ever get over it honestly. I would probably cry...forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool find!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the heads up on the deadline ... and for changing the rules. I don't know if I'll get done in time to be honest! I better put the pedal to the metal and get cracking! : )
