Sums me up, eh?

OK, I found this blog in an image search for "Iliad tattoos". I am to be dining with a fine Classicist & translator, and I had an inkling that I might be the only Classics dork who has actually gotten an Iliad tattoo (of the text, that is...). No, you're not a dork, but alas, you do have one bit I considered as well!

I currently, however, have only the first half line in all caps (though I allowed spaces between words, not a purist as much as I thought....) on my left arm (how unlucky!), the inside of the upper arm.

My next was and perhaps is to be from Beowulf, since I'm honoring my years as an undergrad it would seem. I certainly hope you haven't chosen line....oops, missing my copy currently & think it was line 750....

I read so little fiction, but another favorite contains Padfoot & Prongs, so geeking out over finding this on google has earned me the geektastic award of the year--until this impressive professor ends up seeing my tattoed rage of Achilleus!

(mischief managed)Kiddohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05626502212185158978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199256706975499037.post-43378059910193565532009-02-17T12:58:00.000-05:002009-02-17T12:58:00.000-05:00Hi there, many thanks for the nice mention, and wh...Hi there, many thanks for the nice mention, and what an interesting book blog you both have going here. I have a huge idea ...I really enjoy your writing. I have a huge idea about the tatoo, but I will not put it in caps. It is a fun idea....today. My experience has been that most people evolve and grow and even ideas that fit them perfectly, especially literary lines that seem so perfectly succinct, do not necessarily suit them a few years later. Imagine having to explain the tatoo to people that you meet that are mildly interested in you, a few years from now. Now imagine that you already have one tatoo...you got it when you were nine years old.. What would it be? Where would it be? hmmmm. How about an original T-shirt or book bag with the'tatoo' that you love today? Or get one of the cool rocks that people laser carve words and phrases into. I saw one that made me smile: Nothing is carved in stone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199256706975499037.post-39105570335262511372009-02-12T03:04:00.000-05:002009-02-12T03:04:00.000-05:00Haha mine does currently as well. I love literary tattoos, even more so when they mean something.

Apropos Greek mythology and literature, have you read Donna Tartt's The Secret History? It's beautifully written, allegedly alludes to quite a bit of Greek mythology (I only get the very basics, boring English major that I am) and is nothing short of divine.niriniahttp://nirinia.livejournal.com/noreply@blogger.com
